Paste a screenshot straight into any upload area

Every upload area in QuickCasa now takes a pasted image, which is the quickest way to get a screenshot or a cropped photo in without saving it to disk first.

Two ways to do it

• Paste clipboard image asks the browser for whatever is on your clipboard. The first time, the browser asks whether to allow it.
• Ctrl+V works too once you have clicked the drop area, and needs no permission at all, because pressing the keys is the permission.

Both are offered because they fail differently. The button works when you have not clicked anything yet; the keys work when the browser will not hand a page the clipboard on request.

What to expect

A pasted image is named for the time it was pasted, so two screenshots added to the same record can be told apart. Everything a dropped file has to pass, a pasted one passes too: the file type, the size limit and how many files are allowed. A type that is not on the list is refused by name, so pasting something unusual tells you what it was rather than only that it was wrong.

The button is left out entirely where the browser will not let a page read the clipboard, rather than sitting there failing.

It helps most where the image never existed as a file on your machine: a screenshot of a listing, a crop of a larger photo, a picture taken off a message. Saving it to the desktop, finding it again in a file picker and deleting it afterwards was three steps to get one image in.
